I guess I didn't realize how much Brig and Kanton really didn't know about babies until Stockton came. This is the first time Kanton has been around a newborn and he hasn't been a baby for so long that I think Brig forgot most of the newborn stage. These two have said some pretty funny things about Stockton and I had to make sure I wrote them down....

The first thing Brig noticed when Stockton's clothes were off was his cord. He said mom "why the heck does he have weeds sticking out of his bellybutton?" I cracked up. When Kanton saw the cord he said "oh mom, look at that chicken!" He said that every time he saw it. I guess he thought it was a piece of chicken Stockton had dropped down his shirt while eating dinner. It got better though....when I went to change Stockton's diaper for the first time after we got home (Stockton wasn't circumcised yet) Brig said, "oh mom what is wrong with him? That doesn't look like mine!" Then we got Stockton circumcised and Brig couldn't believe that he went through the same procedure once upon a time. OUCH!!

But it gets better....You know, Brig is 7 and I thought that he would at least have a little bit of a clue about nursing....but no....when I went to nurse Stockton and Brig was in the room he said "what are you doing mom?" I told him I was nursing. Brig said "what??? Your feeding him that??" EEEEWWWW....I'd rather kiss a toilet seat than eat that! Apparently Kanton wasn't around for that conversation because the next day as I was trying to nurse Stockton again Kanton said "mom put the baby down and come here." I told him I couldn't put the baby down because he was eating his dinner. Kanton came over and lifted the blanket up and starting crying and saying NO! NO! Mom stop! It took awhile to calm him down. Traumatizing.

See what I mean??? They are clueless, to say the least

When Brig first heard what we were naming the baby he was not happy, he didn't like the name. He was disappointed we weren't going to use the name Ray had picked out. Ray was seriously wanting to name him Stoney. Ugh...I couldn't do that to my sweet little boy. Brig agreed with Ray and really wanted him to be Stoney....he likes the name Stockton now, it has grown on him. Kanton called him Sockskin when we first brought him home. Now he calls him Stockson. Pretty close.

My mom stayed with us the first week and stayed up at night with the baby and let me take naps during the day...and cleaned my house. I know, I'm spoiled. My mom is the greatest! Then she went down to be with my grandma, her mom, in the hospital after having several strokes and my sister Traci came and stayed with me for a week and was lots of help and good company too. She has the cutest baby and we enjoyed having them stay with us. Kanton must have been used to how little Stockton was at the time because when he saw Jack, who is a healthy boy, Kanton kept saying "he's a big one!" Traci, you have a big one!" It was pretty funny. Both Brig and Kanton really enjoyed Jack, he smiles, laughs, plays with toys, rolls over and all kinds of fun, entertaining stuff.

Here are our boys with Jack ~ aka the Big One. Brig is looking a little too excited to take a picture
Traci was helping Kanton color and I noticed his fingernails were a pretty shade of blue. :) I asked him if Traci painted his fingernails and he said very proudly, "no mom I do it"!
Both of our big boys are really good with Stockton. They sing to him when he cries and they can both get him to smile now. Brig says all you have to do to make him smile is to tickle him under his arms. It is so cute. Kanton told me today "mom, I really love my Stockson."

Kanton finally figured out that mom is a girl instead of a big boy like him and the rest of the boys in the house. He kept telling me mom you are a big boy huh. I would tell him I was a girl and he would say. Naaaaaaa! Now he thinks it is a great cut down to call someone a girl....and a girl baby is even better. He uses this line on Brig quite often. Kanton likes to look in the mirror and say "oh I'm handsome." Quite the self confidence that little boy has, although I do have to agree that he is handsome, just like all of the other boys in the house! :) Brig's new line is "impressive". He says it at the funniest times too and gets me laughing every time. Our boys got Ray's funny sense of humor, I love it.

We have been keeping Stockton home constantly except to go check his oxygen at the doctor's office and to pick Brig up from school. I have been getting a little bit of "cabin fever". It is pretty pathetic that just running to the school and back is my big outing of the day and it helps just to do that. Sometimes I don't even do that though, I have so many friends and family members that are so helpful to help take Brig to school and lots of other things. Jana came over several days after she got off work to let me take a nap since Stockton hadn't figured out his days and nights until just the last couple of days. She has helped so much with meals too. Vern, Robin and Dan & Evvie have helped so much with the kids and so many other things too! One of them is always calling or stopping by to see if they can help. I appreciate so much all of the help we are getting, it is wonderful but it also makes me feel so guilty that I am taking time from so many people. We will get Stockton all well and figured out :) and then someday I will be in a position again to repay all of the wonderful favors we have received!

Haha I'm laughing my butt off. Those kids kill me. I love Kanton's "naaaaaaa" to everything. Little do you know that he gets that from you.

I would be a little freaked out at any age if I lifted a blanket up on my mom doing that to my brother! ;)

Me and my "big one" need to come visit soon. That was a fun week. And Stockson is looking quite healthy himself!

Oh my gosh, I was totally busting up! I love all the things kids say. Having a baby around brings up so very many questions in a childs mind.

That is so funny about the nursing thing, we will see how our boys react here in a few months.
Your boys say the funniest things. Sorry I am not much help; no excuse is great enough not to step up and help you. I should have known you wouldn't call for help. Silly me

Hallie, those boys of yours are a crack up! All of my kids were so little when I had a new baby, I'm sure if I have another one it would be the same as your experience. I hadn't thought of it until you posted this. Kids say the funniest things! It makes me want to slow down and enjoy them a little more. Also, I know it helps for you to get out, but every time I pass you and I am not picking Brig up, I feel guilty that I should have called. Please let me know when you need me :)

What great friends they will all be. I bet you and Traci had such a fun time together too. We definately will have to come up and hang out. You and I will be so out numbered, but they will be so entertained!
